The best video game commercial of all time

Back in 2006, I thought that this was the best commercial for the year. Then as time went by, I came to realize that it IS the best video game commercial ever made. This commercial for Gears of War made me want to run out and buy an Xbox 360 and play the game as soon as I saw it.

I still claim that it is the best commercial ever made and I dare anyone to find a better commercial…

first, and yes it is a good commercial, and great song too.

great ad. but the xbox 360 live ad is much better. where thhe entire train station all start shooting eachother with invisble guns. PRICELESS

Totally, yes. It’s the best game commercial ever. Possibly the best commercial for any product in history.

Apart from its general perfect badassness, it actually stands a good chance of doing something most VG advertising campaigns don’t even attempt: getting the attention of people who know jack squat about video games.

Epic and Cliffy B win, in perpetuity, this internet.

Andrew, where can I find the xbox 360 commercial? People shooting at each other with invisible guns sounds real cool…

If you think this is the best commercial of all time you’re a complete idiot. Although the game is great, the concept behind the ad is nothing extraordinary or award winning. Maybe you should do a youtube search on Skittle ads, Burger King or VW to see some of the best ads of all time. I can’t complete I wasted my time on this.

big M just google video “banned xbox comercial”. they didnt air it cause it was too “controversial” oh and the GOW commercial was one of the great ones. just like a motion picture teaser.

Awesome game commercial.

Pretty good commercial, but I’d argue it’s the song that makes it stand out. Just like that song did in Donnie Darko. So no credit goes to the game.

Not to mention, it’s another game commercial THAT FAILS TO SHOW THE GAME, in lieu of cutscenes. Sure you get a sense of the story and setting, but no sense of gameplay. I’m so tired of video games ads that try to trick people into thinking the cut scene is what the game will look like.

The game rules, btw. No hate there.

Any commercial that doesn’t make me think of Donnie Darko is better.

The only good part of this was the fact that this song hasn’t been overly used in the media, and thank god for that.

I give you that the game does not suck, however since I’m one of those people who don’t own an Xbox and only play PC or PS2 games, my version isn’t very good, but that’s just cause I can’t afford the supped up graphics card.

Best video game commercial ever: The first Legend of Zelda commercial with the geeky-looking white guy in the black jumpsuit who tried to rap. Way back in the day. Sing along if you remember: “It’s the Legend of Zelda and it’s really rad…”

I see nothing really all that impressive in that commercial. “Oh, this has powerfully-contrasting music and video themes, it must instantly be fantastic!”

It honestly doesn’t impress me.

Does anyone happen to know the name of the song, btw?

The Halo 3 “starry night” commercial is better than this. More engaging story, hype ending. Plus the Master Chief is obviously ten times cooler than Marcus.

if I hear that song I think of this commercial. sometimes I just think of that song and this commercial in my head. just happened earlier today before I saw this.

michael, the name of the song is Mad World, by Gary Jules

The song was originally done by Tears For Fears.

This commercial was the reason I bought the PC version. I might have bought the X360 for it, if I wasn’t a PC only gamer.

Its cool and all… But the music really doesn’t fit the video very well… The lyrics barely compliment the video. It could have been better (at least in video/song relation) to include other people in the video (dead or alive) and have them picked off 1 by 1, leaving 1 alive to fight the big baddy.

Would have been a bit more effective imo to not use music at all, and open it with a short monologue.

i think the commercials lighting and the game go together very well but the expressions on the characters face through out the whole thing makes him seem retard “o giant spider im not surprised ill just keep my face blank” also the song is one of my favorites of all time

try the halo BELIEVE ad.

There was an ad for some VW car like 5 or 6 years back with a guy tackling a shopping cart from a dead sprint, which of course results in sheer hilarity. That, friends, is the best commercial ever. If anyone knows where to find a video please post the link, as I would love to see that again.

The commercial for the original super smash brothers is the best commercial. I also remember the metal gear solid 1 commercial being good.

i completely agree, greatest commercial of all time. I actually looked forward to it coming on.

[...] is nowhere near as good as the first Gears of War commercial, which I still consider to be the greatest video game commercial of all time. But it is still better than most video game commercials that you will see out [...]
